Meet Chifa!

Chifa is a brave dog who has been battling a bone tumor, a large mass on the front of his head that has affected his eye. He and his sister were confined to a small cage, but despite his challenges, Chifa’s spirit remained strong.

After a visit to the vet and a CT scan, we learned that surgery was possible, though complicated.

The tumor would need to be removed, and a metal prosthesis would take its place.
While it was unlikely that Chifa’s eye could be saved, the surgery offered him a chance at a better life, free from the weight of the tumor.

Chifa underwent surgery today.
The massive tumor was successfully removed, and although he lost his eye, the operation went well.

A plate was placed in the space left by the tumor, and the wound closed up beautifully.
For now, no transplant is needed.

Chifa will spend a few days in the hospital as we monitor his progress, but he’s already showing signs of improvement.

Despite everything he’s been through, Chifa is a quiet, gentle soul who gets along well with other dogs. He’s an old grandpa with a heart full of gratitude, and all he needs now is love and hugs to help him heal.

Today, Chifa is a happy dog.
