On April 16, Leo, a missing dog, was discovered in a heartbreaking state: wrapped in duct tape and dumped in a dumpster, a cruel attempt to ensure he didn’t stand a chance. The Nebraska Humane Society asked for help identifying the perpetrator of this horrific act. Employees at an Omaha accounting firm found Leo after hearing sounds coming from their office dumpster on April 14. They initially mistook the noises for a raccoon, but were shocked to find Leo trapped. His legs were bound, his tail was bandaged, and debris was matted in his fur.
Kevin Wiederin of the company expressed his deep dismay, calling it the worst thing he had ever witnessed. Aaron O’Connell, through a pet charity, brought a rescued dog home when the company contacted Animal Control. Officers carefully freed Leo and took him to the Nebraska Humane Society, where staff diligently removed the duct tape and cleaned him up. Leo, once sedated, perked up and wagged his tail after the procedure, showing resilience despite his ordeal.
Leo’s microchip led rescuers to his owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas, who had reported him missing days earlier. Relieved and distraught over Leo’s mistreatment, Erin was joyfully reunited with her beloved pet, who now sports a shorter haircut but is otherwise healthy. Erin described Leo as the cutest dog in the world and wondered why anyone would hurt him. Unfortunately, the isolated spot where Leo was abandoned lacked surveillance.
Leo’s story highlights both the worst of humanity and the compassion that faith can restore. Through love and care, Leo is now safe at home, loved more than ever by his grateful family.
