When a Good Samaritan spotted a terrified pup curled up behind a dumpster in an alley in St. Louis, Missouri, they called Stray Rescue of St. Louis, asking for their help.
Donna Lochmann and her crew immediately headed to the scene.
As soon as they arrived, they saw the dog, later named Joan of Bark, as she tried to hide from the world. She was quiet, and she seemed resigned to her fate.
The moment Joan of Bark heard Lochmann’s voice, she directed her gaze toward her. Her gorgeous eyes spoke of her sorrow and overwhelming fear.

Lochmann sat next to Joan of Bark and fed her with Vienna sausages.
Although she was still unsure of everything, the hungry canine quickly ate the delicious meal.
After sitting with Joan of Bark for a while, her rescuer put a leash over the pup’s neck.
Since the frightened canine hesitated to come with her, Lochmann gave her some time. Once the pooch finally stood up, her rescuers realized why she was so terrified.
Unfortunately, one of her back legs was broken. The rescue team felt sad for the pooch. They assumed that she was hit by a car.
Once the good people lured Joan of Bark into a crate, the rescuers reassured her that she was now safe.
“She’s fearful and painful, but who wouldn’t be in her position. It’s ok baby, you are safe now! We got you,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared in a Facebook post.
They rushed her to the clinic, where the vet checked her and took an X-ray of her back leg.
The kind vet staff gave Joan of Bark a soothing bath, and the pup loved it. She was looking at her caregivers with eyes filled with gratitude.
Although the vet team fought to save the dog’s leg, sadly, it had to be amputated because it had been broken for some time.
After undergoing a successful surgery, the brave dog started her road to recovery.
Once she healed up, Joan of Bark moved to a shelter.
The doggo was relieved because she no longer felt any pain. Her rescuers poured out their love on her, making her feel safe and adored.
Joan of Bark savored every moment she spent with her heroes. She relished cuddling with them.
Their love gave her hope that one day, she would find her own humans who would love her unconditionally.
Despite being a tripod, the canine enjoyed her life. She loved doing zoomies in the yard.
The St. Louis rescue placed Joan of Bark in a wonderful foster home. Although she was timid at first, the canine quickly settled in.
Joan of Bark was treated affectionately by her foster family. She was happy that she had an opportunity to experience the warmth and comfort of a home.
The pup made friends with her furry foster sister, and she loved hanging out with her.
Wishing to finally have her own home, Joan of Bark began searching for her forever family.
It’s not clear whether her biggest wish has yet come true, but I’m sure that such a lovely pup will soon get a chance to feel the unconditional love that only her parents can give.
