When Abby was surrendered in a small box, shelter workers had no idea what had happened to her. She was so small and covered in blisters. Her skin was irritated and the dog was petrified. She was only eight weeks old. She was in desperate need of a medical foster home but finding one isn’t always easy, writes ilovemydogsomuch
It was obvious that this puppy had a true fighting spirit. Even as she lay still, her body weak from her health issues, her tail wagged back and forth when she heard her name. Dina stepped up to be her foster mom. She knew immediately that despite all of Abby’s challenges, the little girl had the will to live.
Dina explains in the video below that the first two weeks Abby was with her, she didn’t seem to be getting better. The blisters on Abby’s skin were getting worse. She would go to her kennel and cry. Abby couldn’t even be touched. It was too painful.
The vet ran more tests and couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. Nothing made sense. Finally, the vet discovered that Abby had a rare skin condition. Now he could cure her!
Amazingly, once Abby received the right treatment, she improved rapidly! She started eating well and even wanted to play with her foster mom and the other dogs in the house. What a difference! Abby’s personality also began to blossom. She would try to snatch her foster mom’s food right out of her mouth. Even though she didn’t have the best manners, at least she was eager to eat.
Dina taught her how to play fetch. Abby also learned how much fun it is to go on walks. She couldn’t wait to join her new doggie friends and go on adventures, discovering the outside world.
As Abby grew into her adult body, her scabs and scars prevented the hair on her head from growing back. Dina describes her as an adorable little “gremlin.” Her adult teeth also came in and she developed this unique overbite that made her look like she was constantly smiling.
Once medically cleared, Abby was able to find her forever home. And she did! Love and Rescue is an amazing organization that stepped up and took Abby from the shelter to save her life.
