At a rescue facility in Edenbridge, England, Monty was actually called one of the “most ignored canines” in the country.
For the last 7 of his eight years, Monty has actually spent his life in a rescue. The staff at Opportunity Pet Rescue can’t understand why Monty hasn’t found his forever home yet.
For the first year of Monty’s life, he was left in a small cage. When he came to the rescue, he was hunched over and had trust issues due to the poor treatment and forgot that he had suffered so early in life. Unfortunately, Monty receives little interest from potential adopters.
“Poor Monty has a hunched back which the vets think was caused by his previous owners keeping him in a cage that was too small for him for long periods of time! As a result he has negative trust issues, so he would definitely need someone who can help show him that not everyone is bad,” his description on his foster listing states.
Monty loves the focus and cuddles with the rescue group, however in the past he has not squared the other animals. Instead he barked while pulling towards them. Since he went to the shelter anyway, he can now walk comfortably next to them and also not bark.
“Monty actually just wants a loving owner, he doesn’t want to share and can become very jealous, which can make him aggressive. He is not good with any type of animal and will bark and pull at them and also requires a muzzle in public places. Unfortunately, he becomes so distressed that he will kick your legs when he wants to reach other pet dogs, so his new owner needs to be quite firm. However, given that going to Last Chance Monty can currently walk happily with a dog in sight and not bark or kick your legs, this will certainly take some time to materialize in his new home.
Monty would definitely do best in a residence without other companion dogs and with someone who can continue his training. He is an energetic dog, loves to run and chase tennis balls, but does not bring them back.
”The reason we have had Monty with us for so long is that he is not the easiest of pets, but we are sure that there might be someone out there that he can call his own and will also like him for what he is, a slightly damaged thief! So, to sum up, we are looking for a single adult, a bachelor pad with no other pets, lots of tenacity, love, yard and even tennis! He would definitely need a lot of visits to hang out with before he is placed, so someone less skilled than us would be great (unless you like long and constant trips)! If you think you could be Monty’s “human”, give us a call, we would love to talk to you.
Please share Monty’s story with your friends, family and social media contacts. We have actually helped companion dogs with much more difficult problems find their dream homes – we know Monty’s new family is out there and we have been really waiting for this adorable dog.
