Drools the 4 year old Pit Bull-Boxer mix was brought to the Conour Animal Shelter located in Monte Vista, Colorado almost 2 years ago.
Seeing the dog’s cheerful and extremely cuddly behavior, workers were confident that the cute boy would soon be adopted. However, Drools has been at the shelter for a record period of over 720 days and there is still no hope that he will find a home anytime soon.
Relay For Rescue employee Kacey Widetich has cared for Drools for the past few months and believes that lack of exposure is one of the reasons he has been neglected for so long. Another factor that makes Drools “undesirable” could be that he gets anxious around other dogs and cats and needs to be the only pet in a household.
The constant rejections have taken a toll on Drools’ emotional well-being. Over the past few months, the otherwise carefree dog has felt especially lonely, depressed, and hopeless. Kacey was quick to notice the spark that was dying in the dog. She now spends nights at Drools’ shelter to make him feel loved and protected.
In desperation, the shelter reached out to the public in hopes of finding Drools his perfect home. Drools is initially wary of strangers, but is extremely loyal and affectionate once he bonds with them. He is good with children and enjoys a moderate level of activity, nothing too strenuous.
